Psychiatry and Cardiovascular Diseases

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Pscyhiatric disorders also contribute a significant proportion of morbidity and some of them are related to reduced survival. There are several links between the cardiovascular diseases and psychiatric disorders. Psychiatric disorders are more frequent in patients with cardiovascular diseases and some psychiatric disorders act as cardiovascular risk factors. Just as drugs used in cardiovascular diseases may cause psychiatric signs and symptoms, psychiatric drugs may also lead to adverse cardiovascular events. We aimed to summarize the current literature about the association between psychiatric and cardiovascular diseases and increase the awareness about this relationship among physicians. The scope of this book covers both cardiovascular manifestations of psychiatric disorders and psychiatric manifestations of cardiovascular disorders. We believe that our readers will become aware of the intricate relationship between psychiatric diseases and cardiovascular diseases while reading the book. It should be kept in mind that heart also has feelings and let’s begin to understand the feelings of the heart ! Lastly, we thank wholeheartedly to our authors for their great contribution.
